Local forestry employees deployed to winter storm

THOMASVILLE — Employees from the Thomas County unit of the Georgia Forestry Commission, which includes Grady County, were deployed Tuesday night and Wednesday morning to winter storms in various Georgia locations.

“We sent three chain saw strike teams,” said Jason Rex, district fire prevention coordinator for the Thomas County district office.

The three teams consist of 11 four-wheel-drive vehicles and 22 team members.

Team members from Thomas and Grady counties are Danny Kelley, Todd Milam, Walter Butler and Mark Bryant.

Trent Ingram, a Thomas County resident who heads the 32-county Flint Forestry District, was deployed to a Macon command center.

“He’s in charge of forestry operations for the whole state,” Rex said.

Some team members were deployed to Augusta. Others are on standby in Macon while it is determined where their services are needed.

Rex said local team members will help clear roads of debris downed by storms.
