Egg & Butter crash claims two men

THOMASVILLE — Two men died in a Thursday morning alcohol-related wreck in which the vehicle was involved in two crashes.

Justin Andrew Zombro, 32, 920 S. County Line Road, Albany, and Alex Paul Hicks, 22, Coolidge, died in an early-morning crash at the intersection of Egg and Butter and Palmer roads.

Zombro was driving a 2009 Pontiac G6 north on Egg and Butter when the vehicle traveled off the right shoulder. The driver tried to bring the Pontiac back on the road, lost control, and the car struck a fence.

The driver backed up, returned to the road, continued northbound on Egg and Butter at a high rate of speed and reached the Egg and Butter and Palmer intersection, said Sgt. First Class Tommy Peeples, Thomasville Post 12 Georgia State Patrol commander.

The G6 traveled through the intersection and onto the dirt portion of Egg and Butter. The car traveled off the road, went through a fence and struck a tree.

“The driver did not stop at a stop sign,” Peeples said.

Neither Zombro nor Hicks wore a seatbelt.

Troopers found a firearm, a .40-caliber Stoeger Cougar, on Hicks’ person. The weapon was not loaded, but a magazine was found in the same pocket.

“We ran it, and it came back clean,” Peeples said about the firearm.

The crash occurred a little after 7 a.m.

A fire in the Pontiac’s engine compartment was extinguished.

“Alcohol was a contributing factor to the crash,” Peeples explained.
