On Jan. 23, a group of Thomasville and Thomas County Central high school students had to look a little harder than usual for an educational tidbit. Some were hidden underneath desks and others were barely visible to the naked eye.
Each student of the Explorers Club had a hands-on roll to uncovering elements of a simulated crime scene. They stepped beyond the yellow caution tape to investigate — just like professionals.
Two crime scenes were assembled at Thomasville High School by Fred Ewell, a criminal justice specialist at Southwest Georgia Technical College.
One of the scenes was a burglary, and the other a suspected homicide.
“Working this crime scene investigation has given me the opportunity to see the law enforcement side of things and how CSIs do their jobs,” Melvin Giddens said. “I’ve always wanted to be a police officer.”
