Teen wrecks, charged with vehicle theft

THOMASVILLE — Simultaneously with when a Thomasville police officer saw a vehicle leave a U.S. 319 North business at a high rate of speed early Tuesday morning, another officer saw a vehicle traveling on U.S. 19 South, also at a high rate of speed.

The office attempted to stop the gray Chevrolet pickup truck on 19, but the driver did not stop.

“The officer pursued until the driver lost control, crashing the vehicle,” said Lt. Eric Hampton, Thomasville Police Department public information officer.

“It had extensive damage,” Hampton said, in reference to the wrecked truck.

The driver, Tyrick Jackson, 17, Thomas-ville, was transported to the Archbold Memorial Hospital emergency room, where he was treated and dismissed and transferred to the Thomas County Jail.

Jackson is charged with two counts of theft by taking motor vehicle, entering auto, damage to property and theft by taking firearm. Hampton said a firearm was in the Chevrolet pickup when it was stolen from Thomasville Pools & Spa, 11522 319 North.

Earlier on Tuesday, Jackson and Jamahree Walden, 18, Thomasville, stole a car from the Hampton Lake apartment complex off North Pine Tree Boulevard and drove to the 319 business, Hampton said.

The other pickup truck, a Ford F-150, taken from the business was recovered Tuesday night on Lower Boston Road. Walden, who Hampton said stole the truck, is charged with two counts of theft by taking motor vehicle, burglary and entering auto.

Jackson and Walden remained in the Thomas County Jail Wednesday afternoon awaiting arraignment.
