Arrest nets pot, meth

THOMASVILLE — A North Hansell Street resident stored his drugs in cool surroundings, according to the narcotics/vice chief.

Thomas County/Thomasville Narcotics/Vice Division agents executed a search warrant at 412 N. Hansell St., where it was believed the resident was selling marijuana.

“We had been there before,” said narcotics/vice division commander Kevin Lee. “We were familiar with him.”

An agent who had dealt with the resident, Lee Polen Dennis III, 37, knew Dennis had previously kept marijuana in a cooler. In this incident, Dennis was suspected of having hydroponically grown marijuana, which has a strong odor. Lee said storing the marijuana in the cooler prevented the odor from being detected easily.

Officers found the marijuana in a cooler, along with digital scales.

In a sack-type insulated cooler, agents found several grams of methamphetamine ice.

Dennis is charged with methamphetamine possession with intent to distribute, methamphetamine possession with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school and misdemeanor marijuana possession.
