A state fire marshal said Tuesday a Sunday house fire that took the life of a Meigs boy began in the attic.
Chris Jones, Thomas County fire chief, said that while it is known where the fire began, it remains unknown what caused the blaze.
Jaboris Copeland, 9, a Cross Creek Elementary School fourth-grader, died in the predawn fire. His body was found in a bedroom.
The boy’s grandmother, Queen Copeland, who owned the Palmer Road brick dwelling, required hospital treatment for injuries suffered in the fire.
An adult male and two other children escaped from the burning house, which had bars on windows and two doors.
