Wiregrass Walks tours begin Thursday

THOMASVILLE — Wiregrass Walks will conduct informative and enjoyable tours on Thursday and Friday.

Starting and ending in front of the Lapham-Patterson House, located at 626 N. Dawson St., a Victorian Tour of Thomasville will take guests through the town’s most beautiful Victorian homes. The tour will begin at 1:30 p.m.

Guests will be seen strolling by the must-see Hanna-McKinley House and the elegant Lapham-Patterson House. They will see the home that hosted an eccentric sculptress and hear the stories of Thomasville’s resort era and view lesser-known architectural styles. These include the Cotswald Cottage and the home of Thomasville’s first mayor.

The Victorian Tour lasts approximately 90 minutes and is 1.5 miles.

The second tour will take guests through Thomasville’s Old Cemetery located on Broad Street. Guests will have a history lesson while visiting many of the local prominent early citizens’ final resting places. It begins at the Confederate memorial in the Old Cemetery on North Broad Street in Downtown Thomasville.

From the gold miner who struck it rich to the lady who helped the town in the palm of her hand, guests will hear the stories of the men and women who had an impact on Thomasville and the entire South. The Cemetery Tour will last approximately one hour and guest will walk approximately 1/5 of a mile.

The tours are part of Victorian Christmas and held on Thursday and Friday at 3 p.m. Prices for each tour are $10 per person and children 7 and under are free, with cash only. Reservations for the tours are recommended but not required.
