Paws are set to get moving for a good cause Saturday.
The Thomasville-Thomas County Humane Society’s (TTCHS) 22nd annual Run For Rover 5K Run/Walk will begin at 9 a.m. at Thomas University.
Participants have the option to run or walk through the Rose City with their furry friends.
Registrants are encouraged to bring their leashed dog to run or to walk with them for a morning of exercise.
There also will be a 1-mile Fun Run for children 12 and under immediately following the 5K.
“We invite the canine community, and their humans, to join us for this fun event. Run for Rover has been a success for the past 20 years, and we plan to continue that tradition this Saturday,” said Sarah Kilgore, TTCHS Board Member.
Proceeds from fund-raisers such as Run for Rover support the Humane Society’s many programs.
“Run for Rover is the perfect opportunity to get outside and get some exercise, all while supporting the TTCHS! Community support at this event is vital to our Shelter as it allows us to care for the nearly 5000 homeless animals we see each year. And how many events allow you to bring your pet along for the fun?!” added Kilgore.
Although the TTCHS encourages participants to register before Saturday, there will be race-day registration from 8:00 a.m. - 8:45 a.m. Registration is $20 per runner and the registration form can be downloaded at www.thomasvillehumane.org/runforrover.
Race-day registrants will receive an official Run For Rover T-shirt while supplies last.
Trophies will be awarded to first-place overall male and female runners, first-place male and female runners in each age group, first-place runner and walker with dog and first-place male and female fun runners.
Medals also will be awarded to first-place male and female walkers in each age group. Age groups are 19 and under, 20 to 34, 35 to 49, and 50 and over.
