THOMASVILLE —  More than $2,000 worth of cell phones were taken in the third burglary of a Smith Avenue business.

An employee arriving at work at Lanter Communications, 603 Smith, discovered there was no electricity.

The employee went outside and to the rear of the building and found a cut screen and broken window.

Inside, a number of cell phones had been taken from a display case.

The burglary is the third in recent months. In other burglaries, glass on the front of the building was broken to gain entry.

Phones taken in the recent burglary were valued at a total of $2,200.

“There is a big market for cell phones, iPhones and smartphones,” said Lt. Eric Hampton, Thomasville Police Department public information officer. “They’re a very popular item right now.”

Anyone aware of phones being sold on the street or under any suspicious circumstances should call Crimestoppers at 227-3305, the police Criminal investigations Division at 227-3302 or 911.
