Victorian Christmas tradition

THOMASVILLE — Glen Hunter is a tradition within a tradition. The musician has been a part of Victorian Christmas for the past 19 years.

The 26th Victorian Christmas, which started Thursday night and ends Friday evening in Downtown Thomasville, voted a Top 20 Event in the Southeast by the Southeast Tourism Society

Born in Cuthbert and raised in Colquitt, Hunter began taking piano lessons in the fifth grade.

“My mother stood over me with a belt telling me I was going to learn how to play piano,” Hunter said. “So I did. I learned how to play classical and pop music in under three teachers.”

In the 9th grade, Hunter started playing along with the radio working on his ear training. While in high school, he played for his church and school. He even spent some time in the high school band.

At Young Harris College, Hunter became friends with Ronnie Milsap. Milsap enjoyed playing rhythm, blues and, of course, country.

See Friday's edition for more details.
