United Way finds ‘love and support’

THOMASVILLE — United Way of Thomas County has done it again, thanks to the love and support of the community. The organization reached its campaign goal of $225,000 for the 2013-2014 fiscal year, officials announced.

“The realization of this goal helps our community tremendously,” said Chris Quick, United Way volunteer president for the past campaign year. “The structure of giving to the United Way allows all proceeds to go directly to the Thomas County agencies we support. This allows us to truly give back.”

Currently, United Way supports 18 agencies. All of the proceeds go directly to these agencies to help thousands who are in need.

Quick said, “To our neighbors that do have needs that when supported impact our citizens right away — from organizations that help shape the lives of our children to those that support elderly shut-ins — we are able to give back to every sector of our own community.”

The annual campaign is held from July to June.

Steve DePaola, United Way vice president and campaign chair, was thrilled to see the community come together for the effort.

He said, “It’s so important because we help the community. It really shows how strong and supportive this community is for one another— and that’s what I love about Thomasville. No matter the amount of money someone has, they will help.

“I came here from California and that wasn’t found there, but when I moved to Thomasville — the love and support for each other was what I found.”

The 18 agencies supported by United Way are The American Red Cross, Boy Scouts of America, CASA Kids Program (Court Appointed Special Advocates), Council on Aging/Scott Senior Center, Easter Seals Southern Georgia, Inc., Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia, Halcyon Home for Battered Women, Rescue Mission Ministries/Soup Kitchen, Salvation Army, Special Olympics, Thomas County 4-H Club, Thomas County Certified Literate Community Program (CLCP), Thomas County Food Bank and Outreach Center, Thomas County Youth Camp, Thomas-Grady A.R.C., Thomasville Community Resource Center, Thomasville-Thomas County Humane Society and Thomasville YMCA.
