Services for Murray (Spud) Garland Jr., 66, of Thomasville, are at 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008, at Willow Head Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Silas Brinson, pastor, will officiate and interment is in Peaceful Rest Cemetery. Active pallbearers are Tyrone Garland, Steve Garland, Tyrone Boatman, Terry Frazier, Randy Frazier and Tony Thompson. Mr. Garland died Aug. 1 at Archbold Hospital. Born June 24, 1942, in Thomasville, he was a son of the late Murray Garland Sr. and Juanita Martin. On April 16, 1976, in Thomasville, he married Mary Lee Biggins Garland. He attended Magnolia High School and was retired from Capital Auto Parts. Survivors include his wife, Mary Lee Garland of Thomasville; daughter and husband, Samantha and Zachary Bryant of Augusta; son, Phillip Wayne Garland of Thomasville; stepson, Julian Biggins of Thomasville; stepdaughter, Marilyn Walker of Thomasville; brother, Melvin Garland of Thomasville; brothers and wives, Jerome and Sarah Garland, Michael and Mazilla Garland all of Thomasville; uncle, Bill Garland of Miami, Fla.; brother-in-law, Willie Biggins of Thomasville; aunt, Annie Bell Wells of Thomasville; 11 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a special friend, Aaron Mitchum. The viewing is from noon to 8 p.m., today at the funeral home and from 12:30 p.m. until the funeral hour Saturday at the church with no viewing after the eulogy. The family will receive their friends after the service at 206 Crimson Circle. Relatives and friends are asked to meet at 1 p.m., Saturday at 206 Crimson Circle for the procession. — Grooms Funeral Home
