Students in the eighth-grade MERIT program were recently visited by author Donna Meredith. A retired teacher, Meredith has published four award-winning novels, one nonfiction book, and numerous articles and reviews.
Meredith spoke to students about what influenced her to start writing and about what it is like to write as a profession. She also led students in a short writers workshop about using specific words versus general words to make their writing come alive.
“Using specific words helps develop imagery that builds a believable world for the reader and bring it to life in the reader’s mind,” eighth-grader Hailey Atkinson. “That’s what I got out of the presentation.”
