THOMASVILLE — The Thomasville City Schools system has named an interim superintendent and also must find a new board member.
Chris Rodd, the former school board chairman, submitted his resignation as a board member just prior to the board’s called meeting Wednesday.
School board members accepted Rodd’s resignation and also voted to extend an offer of interim superintendent to Lance Heard, who is currently the interim superintendent in Echols County.
"Since his retirement as a full time superintendent for a number of years, Mr. Heard has served as the interim superintendent in a couple of other school districts, so he will be bringing pertinent and relatable experience for this interim position," said board Chairman Todd Bennett.
Heard’s start as interim superintendent, upon his acceptance of the contract, is July 1.
Rodd was appointed to the board in December 2013 and ran unopposed for the seat in 2015. He resigned as board chairman earlier this year but opted then to keep his seat on the board.
'Each board member decides when it is their time to move on from the board and we respect his decision," Bennett said. "We wish him well and we thank him for his years of service."
