The Grady County School System has announced that the last day of school, Friday, May 20, will be a “half day.”
“We did the same thing last year and it worked well for everyone,” Superintendent Dr. Tommy Pharis said.
He said instructional time on the afternoon of the last school day “is not an issue” and added that “a large number of our students always leave school at lunch on the last day.”
A release schedule was not known at press time Thursday.
“Each school will announce specific dismissal and bus pick-up times,” Pharis said.
The “half day” is also a way to thank the system’s teachers for their hard work.
“We have cut teacher workdays and salaries by five to seven days, plus loss of local supplement, for the past two years,” Pharis said.
