The popular Arts for the Community at Thomas University (ACTU) Sundays at Four series will present two outstanding community bands in a concert to honor veterans and the current military in a Veterans Day Celebration at 4 p.m. Nov. 11. The concert is free and open to the public.
The Rose City Symphonic Band and the Capital City Band of Tallahassee Community College will perform a variety of patriotic anthems and songs at the Thomasville Municipal Auditorium.
“I’m very excited for the opportunity to partner with the city for this very family-friendly event,” said Dr. Karl Barton, ACTU series coordinator. “Music is a great way to celebrate the contributions of veterans, and this will be a great concert for people of all ages.”
The Rose City Symphonic Band consists of professionals, retirees and students performing together under the direction of Lisa M. Foltz. The Capital City Band performs under the direction of Mike Grant with Foltz as the associate conductor.
During the concert, the Rose City Symphonic Band will perform “The Star-Spangled Banner,” excerpts from “Our America” and “American Originals,” “Call to Victory March,” “Faith of our Fathers,” “This is My Country,” “Golden Memories” and “Strike Up the Band.” The Capital City Band of TCC will perform “Glory of the Yankee Navy,” New England Suite” and John Muir Suite.”
The two bands will combine to perform several works ending with “America, the Beautiful,” “Stars and Stripes Forever” and “Hands Across the Sea.”
“The tradition of community bands in the us is a great one and these two ensembles represent this very well,” Barton said. “Join us Sunday to see what talented musicians we have right here.”
