A full day of fun, food, learning and activities were planned for the CofC Georgia Division Convention that was held in Comer at the Watson Mill Bridge State Park. This marked the 107th annual CofC GA Division Convention. John B. Gordon Chapter 383 UDC showed support by attending.
Those from the local UDC chapter who attended were Mary Margaret Quiggle, chapter president and Sheila Tucker, third vice president. CofC President General Taylor Thaxton was a special guest at the Convention. Thaxton is also president and member of the local CofC chapter John B. Gordon Chapter 840. Another special guest in attendance was Third Vice President General and Director for the CofC Kimberly Wright. President Sharon Steele-Smith gave greetings from the Georgia Division UDC.
The night before the convention, the CofC members and guests attended a pizza party and had the opportunity for swimming. During the first part of the meeting at the convention, CofC officers presented their reports and then participated in the Catechism Quiz. After lunch, the convention continued with chapter president reports. Awards were presented by Georgia Division CofC Director Nancy Hyte. John B. Gordon Chapter 840 CofC was awarded the chapter for “Most Supplementals Ordered” by a chapter.
A Memorial Service was held with Wesson Willoughby, Division Chaplain, presiding along with Hailey Miller, Division President. Memorial Tributes were given for: Confederate veterans, veterans of all wars, UDC and CofC.
During the last session of the convention Director General CofC Wright installed the new Georgia Division Officers for 2019-2020. The new Georgia Division President is Smith Willoughby.
