John B. Gordon Chapter 383 was organized in Thomasville on May 9, 1900. The first president was Miss Etta Alston Reid.
After 122 years later of leadership by different ladies of the community, a new president will take the gavel. Her name is Mary Margaret Tyson. Sheila Massey Tucker is the out-going president. Both ladies have served the organization several times as president. This will have Tyson serving as the elected president for her third term, each term lasting for two years. Tucker has served as chapter president for six terms.
Other officers of the chapter elected were: Vice President Dot Maxwell, Second Vice President Mary Julia Coons, Recording Secretary and Registrar Anita Ward, Treasurer Franci Carter, Historian Sheila Tucker, Recorder of Military Service Dianne Ponder, Chaplain Doris Davies, and Parliamentarian Kathy Mills.
Many thanks were given by the out-going President Tucker for everyone's support and dedication to serving and supporting Veterans of all Wars throug the past years. Throughout the year, several non-fiction books and USA flags , as well as Georgia flags were given to local libraries and schools. The Objectives of the UDC are: Historical, Benevolent, Memorial, Patriotic, and Educational.
