THOMASVILLE — Injuries to a child’s face are under investigation by the Thomasville-Thomas County Humane Society.

Kim Arrington, humane society animal shelter official, said Wednesday a golden retriever that had been hanging around the victim’s house for several days is being held at the animal shelter.

“We’re not definite it’s a dog bite,” Arrington said. If a canine is responsible for the child’s facial injuries, more than one dog might be involved, she said.

“No one was outside with the child when it happened,” she said.

The incident took place Tuesday night on Winchester Lane off U.S. 319 North and involved an eight-year-old boy, said Lt. Tim Watkins, chief investigator for the Thomas County Sheriff’s Office.

However, Watkins said, the sheriff’s office was not contacted about the incident.

“We’re trying to get information,” Arrington said.
