THOMASVILLE — Suspicious circumstances surround the discovery of a body on Cairo Road late Tuesday night.
The body of a 31-year-old Thomasville man was found about 10:30 near Cairo Road's intersection with Martin Luther King Drive. The man's vehicle was found several hundred yards away off the road.
Police officers began CPR on the man while waiting for the emergency medical service to arrive. The victim was pronounced dead at Archbold Memorial Hospital.
"Right now, we are viewing surveillance from businesses to see if we can determine how he got to the roadway and his vehicle was several hundred yards away," said Lt. Toby Knifer, Thomasville Police Department Criminal Investigations Division commander.
Video shows several people slowing down when they saw the body. Some stopped. Someone called 911.
Knifer said anyone at the scene or who might have information is asked to call criminal investigations at (229) 227-3302.
Detectives are working with Georgia State Patrol's Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team in an investigation of the scene to determine how the victim died.
The body will be transported to the state crime lab in Atlanta to help determine the cause of death.
Knifer declined to discus the condition of the body.
"We're considering the whole thing as a crime scene," the commander said. "We're trying to determine how he got out of his vehicle."
