Chamber selling tickets for 20/20 raffle

The Cairo-Grady County Chamber is currently selling tickets for its annual 20 Guns in 20 Days Raffle. Tickets are $20 each with only 1,000 tickets being sold before the raffle begins on Dec. 1. Each ticket gives the holder multiple chances to win one of twenty firearms to be given away each day between December 1-20. Library to hold hristmas Toy Drive swap and shop

The Roddenbery Memorial Library will have a Christmas Toy Drive December 2–4. Donate your gently used toys in the Grady Room on Thursday and Friday, Dec. 2 and Dec. 3 and on Saturday, Dec. 4, stop by and shop for free.

Be aware of officials inspecting property

Grady County has hired a qualified vendor, Georgia Mass Appraisal Solutions and Services (GMASS), to perform a total county-wide revaluation of property values, which will include commercial, industrial, residential and agricultural properties. Personnel from the Grady County Tax Assessor’s Office and GMASS will be inspecting properties throughout Grady County beginning in January 2022 using vehicles which will be marked with the Grady County seal or GMASS seal. Autumn Story Walk open at Roddenbery Memorial Library

StoryWalk® is an innovative and delightful way for children and adults to enjoy reading and the outdoors at the same time. Laminated pages from a children's book are attached to wooden stakes, which are installed along an outdoor path. Beginning at the front of the Grady Room, please stroll around the library and enjoy reading each page and follow the path directed to the next page in the story. StoryWalk® was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, Vermont and has developed with the help of Rachel Senechal, formerly of the Kellogg-Hubbard Library.

Feral swine workshop is Dec. 3

The Flint River Soil and Water Conservation District is offering a free information workshop on feral swine at the Grady County Agricenter on Dec. 3. The workshop will be presented by a partnership UGA Cooperative Extension, UGA Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources and the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service. Topics to be discussed will be feral swine behavior, biology and removal best practices. Lunch will be served and registration is required by visiting www.georgiaferalswine.com/events by Nov. 26.

Christmas parade is Dec. 2

The Cairo Christmas Parade will be held on Thursday, Dec. 2 starting at 7 p.m. with this year’s theme being “Christmas in Grady Land” which is a variation on the popular children’s board game, Candyland. If you would like to have an entry in this year’s parade, call the chamber of commerce at 229-377-3663.

Friends of the Library to have bake sale

Friends of the Library will be having a bake sale in front of the Roddenbery Memorial Library before and during the Christmas parade on Dec. 2. All items will be $1. Everyone is reminded to stop by and pick up some delicious goodies to enjoy while watching the parade.

Grady County Memorial Log available at library

The Grady County Georgia Memorial Log is a public accessible registry of the names and service information of Grady County residents who have performed honorable active service in the United States military. Persons enrolled in the log may be living or deceased, active or veteran. If you or a loved one is not currently enrolled, please contact the library for more information. The website is gradymilitary.net. Stop by the library to see the Veterans Day display of Grady County women who served in the military.

Flu shots available at health department

The Grady County Health Department has received shipments of the flu vaccine for the coming flu season and are recommending that local citizens receive them as soon as possible. The cost per dose is $30 but the health department will file insurance and most patients will not incur any out-of-pocket expense. For more information, contact the Grady County Health Department.
