History museum plans silent auction
The Grady County Historical Society will be holding a mini-silent auction during the upcoming Business After Hours event hosted by the Cairo-Grady County Chamber of Commerce and Synovus Bank. The museum will be open on Monday, November 11 from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. to view the items and bidding will begin and continue through Wednesday, November 13. On Thursday, November 14, during the Business After Hours event, the winning bids will be announced from 5 to 7 p.m. For more information, contact the Grady County History Museum.
Annual Diamond Affair Thursday
The Jackie Robinson Boys and Girls Club will be holding its 10th annual Diamond Affair, sponsored by Koyo, this Thursday, November 7 at the Grady Cultural Center. Tickets for the event are on sale at the club and throughout the community.
Bethel M.B. Church to hold Women’s Day
The Bethel M.B. Church of the Sixteens Community will be having Women’s Day on November 17 beginning at 3 p.m. The Rev. Thomas Garland, pastor, and the entire congregation invites everyone to attend.
Whigham youth to hold ham sale
The Youth Group of Whigham Baptist Church will be holding their annual smoked ham sale to help raise money to send the group to Extreme Winter Camp. The hams are for $25 each and they can be picked up on November 23 between 4 and 6 p.m. at the Whigham Baptist Church on McGriff Street in Whigham. Tickets are currently on sale at Bond’s and Cash and Carry Feeds in Whigham and at Jim Scarbrough’s State Farm in Cairo.
CHS class of 1999 to hold 20th reunion
Members of the Cairo High School Class of 1999 will be having their 20th class reunion on November 9 beginning at 7 p.m. at the Cairo Woman’s Club. All classmates and guests are encouraged are invited to come and enjoy the catered meal, professional photography, music and fellowship. St. Luke P.B. Church plans benefit
A benefit appreciation program to honor Deacon O.C. Gurley Sr. is at 5 p.m., November 9 at the St. Luke P.B. Church in Reno. The community is invited to attend and be a part of this special event. Learn to paint with watercolors
Are you interested in learning how to paint with watercolors? On Thursdays at 10 a.m., Dr. Tom Hart will be providing instructions and techniques for beginning watercolors in the Maker Space at Roddenbery Memorial Library. Al-Anon chapter meets on Thursdays

Club holding golf cart raffle
The Jackie Robinson Boys and Girls Club of Cairo is currently selling raffle tickets to win a custom golf cart. The car is on display in the Hobson Chevrolet showroom in Cairo. Austin Hobson, the chairman for the JRBGC for this year, along with all members of the board will have raffle tickets available to sell for $20 each. This is a great cause and the opportunity to win a one-of-a-kind golf cart so stop by and purchase your raffle ticket today.
Cake pans available for checkout at library
Thanks to a generous donation by Cairo’s local VFW No. 8933 Jr. Vice Commander, Nova Maul, the Roddenbery Memorial Library is able to offer cake pans for check out. Patrons can check out up to two pans for seven days with no renewals and must return the pans washed and in their hanging bags to avoid a cleaning fee.
School system seeks bus drivers
The Grady County School System is currently in search of part-time bus drivers for its transportation department. Applicants will be provided with the necessary training to obtain a CDL and must have high school diploma, love children and be available to drive mornings and afternoons.
