Cairo Christmas Parade is Thursday 

The Annual Cairo Christmas Parade will be this Thursday night, December 6 starting at 7 p.m. at the Cairo-Grady County Chamber of Commerce and traveling south on Broad Street. According to Chamber officials, there are more than 100 entries in this year’s parade, which will have a tropical holiday theme. Everyone is invited to come see the floats, bands, and of course, Santa Claus during the annual Cairo Christmas Parade this week. 

History Museum raising money to fix roof

Hurricane Michael damage the roof at the Grady County Museum and History Center and they are asking the community for help in the cost of repairs. The museum is asking everyone in the community to donate $30 to help support this cause. For more information about donating, please call 377-5142. 

Health Department offers to test private wells 

Many local residents have been concerned with the condition of the water coming from their wells after Hurricane Michael, so the Grady County Health Department has announced that they have an environmental specialist available to test private wells for pathogens for a small fee. If you are interested, simply contact the local health department to make an appointment. The fee is $50.

Raffle being held to benefit JROTC 

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8433 members are currently selling tickets for a raffle to benefit the Navy Jr. ROTC program at Cairo High School. Raffle tickets are being sold for $5 each with one lucky person winning a $500 Walmart gift card for the holidays. Tickets are available from any VFW Post 8433 member of by calling 221-5504. The drawing will be held December 18.

Library bringing back Food For Fines

The Roddenbery Memorial Library has announced that during December, you may bring in one non-perishable food item for each dollar amount owed in overdue fines. Lost or damaged items or collection fees cannot be paid with food donations. The library cannot accept anything that is damaged or past its expiration date. These food items will be donated to the Grady County Help Agency.  

Pastor Appreciation to be held at Bethel M.B 

The Bethel M.B. Church in Pine Park will be having its annual Pastor Appreciation for Rev. Elex German Jr on Sunday, December 9 beginning at 11:30 a.m. A Christmas dinner will be served immediately following the special service and everyone in the community is invited to attend. 

First Methodist to have Christmas musical 

The Cairo First United Methodist Church Chancel Choir will present the musical, “The Glory of Christmas,” on Sunday, December 16. The musical will be presented during both morning services, at 8:30 a.m. and at 10:30 a.m. and everyone in the community is invited to attend. 

Registration being held for rec basketball

The Grady County Recreation Department will be holding registration for recreation basketball through December 14. The program is open for ages 5-12 and the cost is $20. For more information, call the Grady County Recreation Department at 3747-8221 or stop by the office on North Broad Street from 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.

Benefit fund set up for local cancer patient 

A benefit fund has been set up for Jody Green at United National Bank in Cairo. Green has been diagnosed with stage four prostate cancer and all donations will be used to help with medical and treatment expenses. You may make donations in person at the bank on North Broad Street or by calling the bank at 377-7200.
