Cairo police looking for suspect in attack on girlfriend

CAIRO — Authorities are asking the public for help in locating a wanted man who they say was involved in a violent encounter with a Cairo woman.

Warrants have been issued for the arrest of Jessie Carl Daniels Jr. on charges of aggravated assault, false imprisonment and cruelty to children for an incident last week that the Cairo Police Department says resulted in Daniels’ 22-year-old girlfriend being hospitalized with broken bones.

Police were called to the victim’s residence at an apartment complex on the 100 block of Joyner Road Sunday evening. According to an incident report, the victim’s mother told police her daughter “needed help, but she was scared.” Authorities noticed the victim had “severe” swelling on the left side of her face, a black eye and blood coming from her mouth. Daniels, who lives in the same residence as victim, was not present when police arrived.

The victim was escorted to Grady General Hospital to be treated for her injuries. While there, the victim told police she had been choked by Daniels, 31, and was scared he would hurt her further.

Authorities say Daniels’ children were present during the incident.

Police are now turning to the public for help in locating Daniels.

Anyone with information regarding Daniels’ whereabouts is urged to call 911 or contact the Cairo Police Department at 229-378-3096 or the Grady County Sheriff’s Office at (229) 377-5200. Due to the severity of the attack, police are asking the public not to approach Daniels.
