'Do You Remember?' series to tackle 1993 state championship game

Submitted photoThe Thomasville History Center’s next “Do You Remember?” will be about the Thomasville-Thomas County Central 1993 state championship football game.

The community is encouraged to join the Thomasville History Center for the next edition of its popular “Do You Remember?” program on Tuesday, August 27 at 7:30 p.m. to reminisce about the 1993 Georgia high school football championship game between Thomasville High and Central.

Were you a player, member of the coaching staff, in the bands, or on the sidelines? If so, we want to hear from you! Share your recollections of the time when all eyes were on the cross-town rivals. Remember to keep it civil! This is a friendly conversation and though the rivalry runs deep, the History Center is neutral ground.

Want to be part of the program? The History Center is accepting recommendations for panelists to serve as our “experts” about this historic event. To volunteer, please contact The History Center at history@rose.net.

How does the program work?

At a typical Do You Remember? local “experts,” those who witnessed the subject first hand or have some affiliation with the topic are invited to lead the discussion. When possible, the History Center compiles a brief slideshow of images and documents from its collection that fits the subject matter. Those visuals help to trigger memories and spark the conversation. Three to four panelists make brief opening remarks and then the moderator will ask the panel and audience questions to get the conversation rolling. The audience is encouraged to be active in the discussion — posing questions to the panel and their fellow listeners and adding their recollections.

The program is usually recorded or streamed live on Facebook for viewers at home to feel a part of the action.
