THOMASVILLE -- The Thomas County/Thomasville Narcotics/Vice Division is receiving complaints about street-level drug activity in Meigs.

The agency also is receiving tips about drug sales in the Thomas County town.

"We will actively pursue drug dealers in Meigs," said Kevin Lee, narcotics/vice division supervisor.

Lee said several people are dealing crack cocaine there. Dealers practice their trade from Meigs street corners, he explained.

Agents executed a search warrant at noon Thursday at a Hurst Street residence in Meigs. Charlene Jackson, 31, lives at the address, but she was not at home.

"She turned herself in the next day," Lee explained.

Agents found a plastic wrap of crack cocaine at the residence.

Jackson, who was charged with cocaine possession, was released from the Thomas County Jail on a $4,100 bond.

A visitor at the Jackson residence, Derrick L. Cochran, 26, of the same Hurst Street address, cursed agents. When he did not stop after repeated warnings, Cochran was taken into custody and charged with abusive language. He was released from jail on a $550 bond.

Lee said the narcotics/vice division pays informers for tips.

How much? "It depends on each case," he said.

Anyone with information should contact Lee at 225-3305.
