THOMASVILLE — A man released from the Thomas County Jail on a drug offense was back in custody within hours facing new charges, including a new drug violation.
James William Butler, 39, 233327 U.S. 19 North, Ochlocknee, was arrested at a U.S. 19 North store soon after he was released.
Butler was released January 6, according to Keith Drawdy, Thomas County/Thomasville Narcotics/Vice Division assistant commander, and those methamphetamine charges were dropped.
Meanwhile, a Thomas County Sheriff's Office investigator had taken out multiple warrants for credit card fraud on Butler on the day of his release.
Drawdy said the suspect had been out of jail for a couple of hours when he was arrested at the business.
"When they searched him, they found suspected crystal methamphetamine in his front pants pocket," Drawdy said.
Tests showed the substance was crystal methamphetamine weighing 3.5 grams.
Butler was returned to jail and charged with several counts of credit card fraud and methamphetamine possession.
