CAIRO — With a single vote Tuesday morning, the Grady County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a slate of department heads for another year of work in 2020.
The department heads will each serve one-year terms beginning in January before requiring approval by the county commission once again.
No new faces will be leading any county departments.
Finance director Holly Murkerson and county clerk John White will be heading into their first full years in their respective positions. Both were appointed in 2018.
Other returning figures include Stanley Elkins with the road department, Rodney Gordon with emergency medical services, Brian Harrison with code enforcement, Becky Bracewell with recreation, Shawn Mobley with animal control, Richard Phillips with the volunteer fire department and Chris Dix at the county shop.
As a contracted employee, County Administrator Buddy Johnson’s contract requires a separate vote, which may take place sometime in July.
The Grady County Lake Authority chose to recommend renewing the contract of Tired Creek Lake director Mike Binion at their meeting Wednesday following an executive session.
Binion’s name was initially listed among the other department heads slated for renewal Tuesday, but was removed when it was determined that any decision regarding his contract must first be recommended by the Lake Authority.
