BEACHTON — Firefighters responded to a powerful blaze at Springwood Plantation on Friday morning that resulted in the loss of a home.

Authorities received a call at 6:08 a.m. that a single-family wooden structure was ablaze on the 1200 block of Highway 319, within Grady County.

Units from Beachton, Midway, Cairo-County and Pine Park responded to the call, but by the time they arrived 10 minutes later, the entire building was engulfed in flames.

"When we got there, it was burning all over," said Keith Moye, chief of the Cairo-County Volunteer Fire Department.

It took nearly two hours before the fire was safely put out, and the building is considered a total loss.

"There's really not a whole lot you can do for a fully engulfed structure," Moye said.

No one was inside the home when firefighters arrived.

The origins of the fire are unknown.
