Perry and Lindy Savelle of JoNina Farms were named Thomas County’s 2020 Conservationist of the Year by the Middle South Georgia Soil and Water Conservation District for the conservation practices used in their Citrus operation. Some of the practices include planting cover crops, ground water management, and planting perennial peanuts as ground cover and as a soil stabilizer. These practices conserve water, protect the soil from erosion, and promotes soil health so future generations will have access to sustainable natural resources.
Due to COVID-19, the annual Middle South Georgia Soil and Water Conservation District banquet was cancelled. Winners will be recognized at next year’s banquet.
Special thanks are given to Thomasville National Bank, Barwick Banking Company, and Thomas County Farm Bureau for their support for the annual Conservationist of the Year Banquet, scholarships, and school grants in support of conservation.
