THOMASVILLE — Karen Gardner Kelso won a majority of the votes to assume the Thomasville City Schools Board at-large post.

Kelso received 1,087 votes out 2,159 votes cast, or 50.4 percent. Only a plurality is needed for city school board races.

“I’m humble and very grateful,” Kelso said. “I’m really proud to be a part of Thomasville. Now it's time to get to work and serve.”

Russ Beckham finishes second in the race to fill the seat being vacated by Todd Bennett, who decided not to run for re-election. Beckham had 847 votes, and Erin Fielding had 213.

Britney Glass, who ran unopposed, won a full term for the District 2 with 976 votes. Incumbents Kejar Butler and Dr. Mary Williams Scruggs also were unopposed in their bids for the two-post District 1 seat. Butler had 588 votes and Scruggs received 808.
