THOMASVILLE — A man police said kidnapped and assaulted his former girlfriend in her car surrendered at noon Thursday.

Police had been looking for Tyler Jeffery Boyette, 26, 6467 Woodhaven Road, Pavo, after he approached his former girlfriend in a local supermarket on Jan. 14.

"She was physically taken to her vehicle, where she was assaulted," saidLt. Toby Knifer, Thomasville Police Department Criminal Investigations Division commander.

The woman was not allowed to leave, Knifer said, but she eventually escaped.

Boyette began stalking the woman after the assault and had stalked her previously, the commander said. Boyette had followed the victim to the supermarket, he added.

Boyette is charged with aggravated assault, kidnapping and stalking.

Knifer said Boyette will be prosecuted by the state, because the incident and charges come under the state family violence statute.

On Thursday, the suspect was released from the Thomas County Jail on a $20,100 bond.
