MEIGS — With shaking hands and child-like excitement, Lori White tore into an envelope at the Meigs Post Office today.
It wasn't a Christmas card or present she anticipated. Instead, it was a certified letter from the Thomas County Board of Elections stating that White's month-long effort to collect petition signatures calling for a recall election for Mayor Linda Harris was successful.
"I am so relieved," said White. "It was a lot of work."
A simple yes or no vote to recall the divisive and controversial mayor will be in May 2016, according to Frank Scoggins, Thomas County superintendent of elections.
