Thomas Hairston Brock

Services for Thomas Hairston Brock, 95, Cairo, are at 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 27, 2001 at Cairo Presbyterian Church where he was a member. The Rev. Dr. J.B. Spencer will officiate and interment is in Cairo Cemetery. Active pallbearers are Carl Harrison, Robert Harrison, Hubert Knauff Jr., Mac Kemp, Kirk Lowry and Gary McGahee. Mr. Brock died Thursday, Aug. 23 at Grady General Hospital. Born Aug. 20, 1906 in Greenville, Ala., he was a son of the late Frederick D. Brock and Cassie Hairston Brock. In 1931, he married Winnie Well who preceded him in death in 1988 and their son, James Thomas Brock, died in 1998. He later married Myrtle Cook Allen Brock, who survives, of Cairo. Mr. Brock had been employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Montgomery, Ala. and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Other survivors include granddaughter, Lillie Ruth Brock of Dallas, Texas. and her mother, Linda Brock of Montgomery, Ala.; step-grandson, Tom Fanning of Watertown, N.Y.; a step-daughter and her family, Mary and Stan Cross of Conway, S.C.; Jay Cross of Nashville, Tenn. and Catherine and Chris Parypinski of Bethlehem; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m., Sunday. -- Heritage Funeral Home

Leon Robert Tinsley Sr.

Services for Leon Robert Tinsley Sr., 91, Pelham, are at 2 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001 at Mizpah Primitive Baptist Church where he was a member. Elder Max Childs and Elder Leon Andrews will officiate and interment is in Mizpah Cemetery. Active pallbearers are his grandsons. Mr. Tinsley died Aug. 24 at Pelham Parkway Nursing Home. Born Nov. 22, 1909 in Mitchell County, Ga., he was a son of the late Clifford Tinsley and Lacy Godwin. He was married to Fannie Davis Tinsley, who survives, of Pelham and was a retired farmer. Other survivors include a son, Leon R. Tinsley Jr. of Pelham; two daughters, Patricia Rhodes of Quitman, Dorothy Maxwell of Cairo; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Margarat Voorhees of Orlando, Fla., Virginia Barker of Orlando, Doris Gelm of Maitland, Fla.; and a sister-in-law, Naomi Davis of Pelham. -- Braswell Funeral Home
