THOMASVILLE — One individual is in custody, and another arrest is pending in the Sunday burglary of a Meigs bank.

The alarm was activated a little before 10:30 p.m. Sunday when the back door of Georgia Bank on East Depot Street was kicked in.

Video equipment captured the activity at the door and inside the financial institution, said Pascal Autrey, Thomas County Sheriff’s Office investigator.

One suspect was in the Thomas County Jail on Tuesday. Video from bank cameras is being analyzed and enhanced to identify burglars. A second suspect is expected to be arrested soon.

“A Meigs police officer got there and found the back door kicked open,” said Jason Carroll, sheriff’s office investigator.

Jimmy Layton, Meigs police chief, refused to discuss the incident with a Times-Enterprise reporter.

Carroll said it does not appear anything was taken from the bank.

Autrey said that as soon as all suspects in the bank burglary are in custody, the individuals’ names will be released.
