THOMASVILLE — One man was killed and another was injured by gunfire early Friday afternoon in an alteration at the intersection of Feinberg and Lester streets, according to the Thomasville Police Department.
According to reports, victims were in a vehicle that entered the intersection about 1:30 p.m.
Several males were standing near the intersection when the vehicle approached, said Maj. Wade Glover, Thomasville Police Department public information officer.
A verbal altercation ensued, and shots were fired into the vehicle.
“It happened mainly in the street,” Glover said.
The surviving victim was transported to Archbold Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Glover said names of the victims are not being released at this time.
“We’re still processing the scene,” the officer said at the site of the shooting.
Possible suspects have been identified. Police are trying to positively identify the individuals. Victims’ identities will be released after next of kin are notified.
Dozens of bystanders and onlookers flooded the intersection in the minutes after the shooting.
Glover said processing the scene for information and evidence can take from four to five hours to a couple of days.
“We have a lot of people out here and a lot of law enforcement on the scene,” he said. “We’re trying to get as much done as fast as possible. We’re just trying to get to the bottom of what really happened. It’s a very chaotic scene.”
Thomas County Sheriff’s Office and Georgia Bureau of Investigation are assisting the TPD.
