CAIRO — A Grady County motorist may be facing charges after a passenger was killed in a wreck earlier this week.
Atlanta Marie Johnson, 30, was traveling northbound on State Route 93 when the Georgia State Patrol says her vehicle somehow strayed into the southbound lane.
As Johnson travelled off the west side of the roadway, her vehicle drove through a fence and struck multiple trees before finally overturning onto its roof.
Johnson's boyfriend, 53-year-old Robin Dayne Crowley, was ejected from the passenger seat of the vehicle. An investigator said Crowley was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the wreck.
Crowley was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash occurred between Cairo and Beachton close to Lakeside Drive on Monday just after 11 a.m.
Johnson was transported to an emergency room in Thomasville where she was treated for minor injuries. She was interviewed by investigators later that day.
A specialized collision reconstruction team (SCRT) has launched an investigation into the wreck. Investigators were at the scene of the crash Wednesday morning mapping out the path of Johnson's vehicle.
GSP Corporal Meed Kelley said charges are pending in the case.
The vehicle, a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer, was totaled.
