THOMASVILLE — Votes cast Tuesday in a runoff election for a Thomasville City Council position will determine who will occupy the District 1, Post 1 council seat in January.
Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. at the following District 1 precincts:
• Resource Center
• Remington Emergency Service Center
Early voting last week saw 221 votes cast. With the addition of absentee ballots, a total of 240 votes were cast.
Absentee ballots may be turned in until polls close at 7 Tuesday night, said Frank Scoggins, elections supervisor. Absentee ballots should be turned in at the elections office at the Thomas County Judicial Center, 325 N. Madison Street.
"Close kin can deliver them by hand," Scoggins said.
Those who did not vote in the November general election may vote in the Tuesday runoff.
"Based on the early voting, I do not anticipate a big turnout, but I've been surprised before, and I hope I am again," Scoggins said.
Votes will be tallied at the elections office Tuesday night.
Results also will be available on Thomas County government's website at thomascountyboc.org. Go to elections and registration under departments, and click on the election results link.
Scoggins said election results also will be posted at the elections office.
