THOMASVILLE — Solicitations for donations to a basketball team are not a Thomasville City or Thomas County school system fundraiser, said Eric Hampton, Thomasville Police Department assistant chief.
Hampton said a Thomasville High School basketball coach contacted the police department after being told about the door-to-door activity.
"They did not specify which basketball team," Hampton said.
The officer confirmed with Thomas County school officials the activity is not an approved fundraiser for that school system.
"We want to know who they are," Hampton said.
The officer pointed out that door-to-door solicitations are prohibited in the city.
Anyone approached by someone soliciting for a basketball team is asked to call dispatch at 226-2101 or call 911.
Police will take appropriate action if a suspect is found.
