CAIRO — Investigators are still awaiting the results of a toxicology report for an apparent drug overdose death that occurred last month.
The victim, a 38-year-old white male, was found unresponsive in the backyard of his Cain Road residence several weeks ago. The man had died by the time first responders arrived.
An autopsy is being conducted in Macon to determine what components may have been in the victim’s bloodstream at the time of death.
The results of that test are expected to return any day, according to Capt. Chris Luckey, Grady County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators are unsure what specifically may have caused the man’s death, but they suspect that he may have ingested a drug that was laced with an unknown substance. Those suspicions remain unconfirmed.
In the meantime, the sheriff’s office is warning residents that tainted drugs are possibly being distributed in the county.
In a possibly related incident, a white female in her mid-20s suffered a near-fatal overdose. In that case, the victim was successfully revived.
Law enforcement has reason to believe the two overdoses are connected and are working to establish a connection.
Citizens who have any information regarding either incident are encouraged to contact the sheriff’s office.
