THOMASVILLE — The beloved story of Cinderella will open Friday at the Center for the Arts on Washington Street.
The fairy tale has appeared in many forms since it was written in the 1600s. A more familiar version was published in Grimms’ Fairy Tales as “The Little Glass Slipper” in 1812.
The story of “Cinderella, the Enchanted Edition” is a Rogers and Hammerstein musical that will “enchant” children of all ages. Audiences will be delighted by the familiar classics such as “In My Little Corner of the World,” “Impossible” and “Do I Love You Because You’re Beautiful?,” and many more.
Cast and crew members have been artfully recreating the “Enchanted Edition” for Thomasville patrons. All who attend will fall in love with the set design and musical song as well as Cinderella and her handsome prince. The opening production number begins when Lionel, the king’s steward announces “The Prince is Giving A Ball” to the people of the village. That is just the beginning of the enchantment as we are introduced to Cinderella’s mean stepmother and her stepsisters Grace and Joy. Naturally, Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother will be on hand with a few tricks in her magic wand.
Director Jana Mohr stated that she is very proud of all the actors who have given so much of their time to make this presentation just as magical as Rogers and Hammerstein would have liked to have seen on Broadway. She said, “Everyone has put so much into to this show from making props and costumes to build a fabulous set I could not be happier. I hope everyone will fall in love with Cinderella again.”
Everyone is invited to the ball given on Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. The performances continue the following weekend at the same times.
