Cadet Capt. DeAundre Nash and CMSgt Montreiz Jackson check out a plane at the “Young Eagles” event.

Thomasville High School’s Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) is always grounded in discipline. Some of its cadets, however, recently soared to great heights.

On Nov. 17, Thomasville JROTC hosted the Tallahassee Chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) at Thomasville Regional Airport. Cadet leaders took on the event as a leadership laboratory.

More than 180 students have flown with the “Young Eagles” program through the THS JROTC program. The “Young Eagles” program was launched in 1992, providing the opportunity for people ages 8-17 to fly in a general aviation airplane.
