Three times previous to Saturday night, the Brookwood girls basketball team had gone up against Deerfield-Windsor.

All three times, Deerfield-Windsor won. Each of those victories had come by double digits.

Deerfield-Windsor even had posted a 1-1 mark against Georgia High School Association competition. They had lost just three times on the season.

But in the final game of the season, for the Georgia Independent Schools Association Class AAA girls basketball championship, the Brookwood Lady Warriors showed that past results do not always indicate future outcomes.

The Lady Warriors built a big early lead and then had to come back against a team that had beaten them three times already this season to win the state championship, beating the Lady Knights 53-48 at Georgia Southwestern State University’s Storm Dome.

It is a testament to coach Todd Webb and his players that they remained undaunted against a team that had beaten them three times previously — and held a lead going into the fourth quarter.

Instead, there is a pep rally today at Brookwood School for the new state champions, the Brookwood Lady Warriors.

We offer our congratulations to Coach Webb, his staff and his team for a truly tremendous accomplishment.
