GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Thomasville Bombers opened their 2009 Great South League season by beating the North Central Florida Baseball Stars 7-1 in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday. They dropped the nightcap 3-2.

Ruben Rodriguez paced Thomasville’s offensive in the opener with a homer and three RBIs. Tyler Davis went 2-for-4 with a run batted in. Tanner Fudge was the winning pitcher and Kyle Rowe logged a save.

In the second game, Davis went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Adam Duncan went 1-for-2 and Jeremy Crosby and Drew Johnson, who stole two bases, each went 1-for-3. Ryan Stovall was 1-for-4.

Ross Gusky took the loss in the second game.

The Bombers will host the Tallahassee Legends at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at Varnedoe Stadium.
