The Thomasville Bulldogs surrendered too much ground at the start of Friday’s Class AA playoff game to catch Appling County at the end.
The Bulldogs (6-5), seeded third in Region 1-AA, fell behind Region 2-AA’s second-seeded Pirates 14-0 before falling 28-18.
Appling County (10-1) dominated the early going, ripping off big gains in consistent fashion. It scored on its first possession, concluding it with a 9-yard run by Lashune Moore.
Thomasville’s offense also looked sharp on its first drive. The Bulldogs, however, run into difficulty after moving deep into Pirates territory. A fourth-down sack snuffed the threat.
The Pirates scored on their second possession when Moore fired a 35-yard touchdown pass to Byron Buxton.
