THOMASVILLE — Auburn recorded its biggest win of the season Saturday.

A Brookwood alum had a helping hand in the Tigers’ 20-17 victory against previously fourth-ranked Florida.

Robert Shiver, who serves as the Tigers’ long-snapper, snapped the winning kick by Wes Byrum.

“It was a big win for us,” Shiver said. “It wasn’t a whole lot of pressure. Everyone looks at it as a big deal. I was just doing my part to help the team out.”

Shiver provided the snap not once, but twice, as Byrum’s first kick was negated because Florida coach Urban Meyer called a timeout right before the kick.

“Whenever I jogged out on the field, I saw that they had one timeout left and I figured that’s what would happen,” Shiver said. “Wes, he really is a calm person. He doesn’t really let anything bother him.

“He’s a great freshman kicker.”

Auburn’s victory was key after dropping two of its first three games. With games against LSU, Georgia and Alabama still on the schedule, winning in Gainesville was crucial for the team’s confidence.

“Now we know how good of a team we are,” Shiver said.
