THOMASVILLE — The path to the GISA AA championship begins today for the Brookwood Lady Warriors. The plan to victory against Frederica Academy could be the Lady Warriors’ success in stopping Maggie Bryan.

“If we can contain her, I feel like we’ve got a real good shot to move on to the Elite Eight,” said Brookwood head coach Todd Thomas, whose team will open the state tournament at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton at 5:30 p.m.

Bryan, a senior guard, can drive in the lane and shoot the 3-pointer very effectively. Thomas said he will utilize Marielle Youmans, the team’s best defender on Bryan.

The Brookwood girls (16-7) are coming off a disappointing finish to the Region 3 tournament, losing 32-29 Friday to Fullington Academy.. But that followed an impressive showing Thursday, as the Lady Warriors ripped Tiftarea 61-45.

“Without a doubt it was our best game of the year,” said Thomas.

Brookwood’s head coach is confident that type of performance can carry over into today’s action.

“It depends on how they respond,” said Brookwood head coach Todd Thomas. “I certainly expect us to win (today).

“Let’s work hard, stay focused and enjoy the experience because that’s what it’s all about,” added Thomas.

A victory over Frederica and Brookwood will advance to the next round where it will play at Middle Georgia in Cochran on Friday.
