CAIRO — The Cairo Syrupmaids smacked Baconton Charter on the softball field on Monday.
Kayla Grigsby pitched a complete game no-hitter and Megan Meadows added two hits, including a homer, to pace Cairo to an 11-1 win.
Peyton Pearson led the Syrupmaids with three hits, including a double. Teammate McKenna Knight added two hits, including a triple and a double. Macy Ellis finished with two doubles. Grigsby chipped in a double as well. Jenin Ross finished with two hits.
“The big key swinging the bat was they didn’t try to do too much at the plate early in the game. We were able to score a few early to give ourselves a cushion, and when they stay within themselves, it’s a special group,” Cairo coach Randy Adams said. “We get in trouble when they try to do more than they are capable of. I’m proud of the approach they took at the plate and am extremely proud of Grigsby who was lights out for us in her first start of the year.”
Turner Mabry Baggett and Lauren Howell each added a hit for Cairo.
It’s Cairo’s second straight victory over Baconton Charter. The Syrupmaids won 4-3 last week.
