Hancock to pitch in Futures game

CAIRO — A former Cairo standout pitcher will take the national baseball stage on Saturday as part of the American League vs. National League Futures game.
Emerson Hancock, who currently pitches for the Arkansas Travelers, the Class AA affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, was selected for Saturday’s seven-inning game, which will occur at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles at 7 p.m.

Hancock has posted a 2-2 record this season with 10 starts, 41 innings, 2.41 ERA and 1.02 WHIP. Hancock was the No. 6 pick in the first round of the 2020 Major League Baseball (MLB) draft. Before being drafted by the Mariners, Hancock pitched at the University of Georgia from 2018-20. He was the highest UGA selection in an MLB draft since 1987.
The Futures game will be broadcast live on Peacock and SiriusXM, with MLB Network producing the telecast and re-airing the game on Sunday at 9 a.m.
