Brookwood School senior Jacob Lauderdale and sophomore Destin Moore captured state individual championships at the GISA Class AAA state track meet.
Lauderdale won the triple jump in with a mark of 40 feet, 8.5 inches. Moore ran away with the 100-meter dash, running a time of 10.96 seconds. Moore also came in second in the 200 meters.
The two sprints scored 18 points, allowing Moore to place fourth individually among all male scorers in the AAA meet.
On the girls side, Peggy Boltja was outstanding all weekend. She finished second in the 100 meters, third in the 200, and 5th in the 400. Boltja also contributed to the 4x100 team and finished ninth among all female scorers in the AAA meet.
The team has some exciting youth coming up the ranks. Kent Grayson placed third in the boys 3,200-meter run, Abby Stalvey finished sixth in the girls 3,200, and Carriyona Williams placed sixth in the girls 100-meter hurdles. Grayson, Stalvey, and Williams more than held their own competing at the varsity state meet in just eight grade.
As a team, Brookwood’s boys finished sixth out of the 17 schools in competition and the Lady Warriors finished seventh out of 15 schools.
